Australian troops fought their most sustained action of the Vietnam War at Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral in May and June 1968. Over four weeks, they repelled repeated attacks by troops of the North Vietnamese Army. Amid fierce, close quarters fighting, both bases remained in Australian hands.
